I had a parent teacher conference today and Astrid is doing well except for her speech. They recommended that she see a speech pathologist. She has a weird language that only she can understand and her words aren't clear and she is jumbling her sounds. It's time. Next week Astrid will have a speech screening and then the doctor can 'diagnose' her (for insurance reasons) and then start the therapy. It is something that I feel guilty for postponing until now. I suppose that I have always known that her speaking wasn't improving, but now, hearing it from a teacher it is more of a reality. The teachers cannot communicate to her and Astrid just gets frustrated. Miss Denise did say that she is extremely bright and outgoing, but if she was able to speak more, she would have more confidence. I have to concur that she is right. She told me that this is a critical time in her development and it is a good idea to address the problem now before she gives up or it turns into something a lot worse than a speech problem. Okay ... point taken. Astrid is doing well. She spent the day over at Grandma's house today because school was shut down for parent-teacher conferences. They had a wonderful day together and Grandma really enjoy having her over. Thanks Mom!!
