Happy New Year my faithful Astrid fans!! I haven't written in a while, and I do feel guilty, so I will catch you up to speed. As you can see from Astrid's latest photos, she is growing into a beautiful young lady. Despite some photos where her lips/mouth is blistered; I was cleaning the bathrooms and I was using CLR on a toothbrush to remove the lime deposits on the faucets. I kept telling Astrid to get out of the bathroom because I didn't want her to get into the chemicals. I was being VERY firm. Well, I turned my back for 3 secs and she was gone. Eric came in 2 minutes later and was inquiring about the toothbrush that Astrid was brushing her teeth with. I almost had a heart attack!! That was the same toothbrush that I was cleaning the bathroom with -- chemicals and all. CRAP!! We had her drink water then milk, but unfortunately the CLR had eaten through her skin and caused the nasty blisters. Believe me ... I felt like a horrible parent. Astrid was finally accepted into Stratford School. She was on a waiting list, but a spot opened up. She will start in 1 week. We are very excited. I think that she will really dig it and will really start to thrive in a structured and educational environment. She needs it too. The sentences and words are really spilling from her mouth these days and she picks up EVERYTHING. We have got to be very careful with what we say because she will repeat. Her latest phrases are 'Groovy', 'Far Out', 'Totally Cool', 'Cuuuttte'. Everything is cute to her. She is a very loud talker and says everything with passion and at an ear shattering decibel. Astrid is almost fully potty trained, and just in the nick of time too. She can’t start school until she is trained. She’s got the pee-pee down, but the poop is a little challenging. She doesn’t feel comfortable pooping on the potty so she holds it for days. I can tell that she has to go because her little gut pops out like a malnourished third world country child; I just feel so bad that she is putting herself through the pain. She still wears a diaper at night time but lately she’s been waking up with a dry diaper. It isn’t all perfect and she has occasional accidents, but for the most part, she’s got it down. Yeah!! This weekend is Astrid’s 3rd birthday. We are having a party for her with a mermaid and about 10 kids. It should be fun for her. This is her first birthday party but I think that this year she will know what is going on. She definitely understood Christmas and opening presents. The holidays were exciting for me, getting her to share her joy of the holidays. She loves all the Christmas lights and the Bambi lights and the Santa’s and the big ‘snow balls’. It was a fun holiday this year. Astrid continues to get smarter and bigger and more mature. She is very confident with her new-found vocabulary and is very proud of herself. I tell her all the time … ‘Astrid, how did you know that?’ and she just looks at me very smugly and smiles. She is picking up on so much and things that I try to hide from her, or things that I’m not aware that she’s noticing she sees. She is very crafty and witty and nothing passes by her without notice. She is amazing!!
