Astrid had her two-year check up on Monday. She's doing well. The doctor was a little concerned about her height-to-weight ratio because it puts her below the 3% of kids her age. She is almost 31 inches tall (2.5 feet) and only 18 lbs. The doctor said that she didn't have a lot of fat on her body and was inquiring about her diet. I let the doctor know that since she has had this cold, she probably lost some weight. She hasn't had much of an appetite lately, and I have noticed that her mid-section is a little leaner than normal. On a positive note, the doctor said that her motor skills were excellent and was surprised that she could jump as high as she was. She was jumping all over the place until she had to have ear wax extracted from her ear and a hepatitis shot. After this, she was screaming, crying and clamping onto me so tight and would not let me put her down. Her doctor also recommends that she go to a speech therapist because she should be saying more words at her age. I’m not really concerned at this point; she’ll start talking when she’s good and ready. She understands everything I tell her … she’s just not confident or comfortable with talking yet. She’ll get it. Thank you everyone for giving Astrid birthday presents! She loves playing with Mr. Potato head and pals. She got some 18-month clothes that I thought would fit her … well let’s just say I packed them in her bag to take to Grandma’s house and it was the only thing that she had to wear; her pants kept falling down around her ankles so Grandma rolled up the cuffs (2x), plus ‘jimmied’ a belt out of string. It will be awhile until she fits into her new clothes, but they’re very cute. She also got some money which will be saved for her college fund. I think that next year she will be ready for a real birthday party. She had no idea what day it was this year. We did take her out for dinner and gave her lots of kisses … she was happy! She IS happy.
