The day that I have been dreading for a long time is finally here. Today is the first day that Astrid will be away from me and family and will spend it at daycare. This is just a trial to see how she will interact with other children, and if it doesn't work out, well ... I will just have to go to Plan B. I was totally sketched out by the other children in the class. Most of them are really clean but there are a handful that are dirty and unkempt (I have to wonder about the parents who send their kids to school looking so filthy). The grossest thing that I saw as I observed the children on the playground was this one dirty looking girl with huge strands of snot running down her face. I almost gagged! I wanted to grab Astrid and shield her from that nasty kid. I am so creeped out by germs and the fact that Astrid will be around that insane amount of germs. I feel ill just thinking about it. It's making me mental thinking that she is there in that classroom touching other kids with germs. She is getting a bath as soon as she comes home. A funny thing that Eric and I observed when we took her there today was that the kids came over to Astrid and swarmed over her in a big circle. They were checking out the new kid in class. It looked like a scene from ‘Night of the Living Dead’ where all these Zombies attack the fresh meat. There is just a few more hours left until I can go and pick her up. I really miss her. I can’t wait for her to come home, and I can clean her up and we can play and read some books. We will spend the days together until Friday; she goes twice a week to daycare (Monday & Friday). I think that this experience has been more traumatic for me than it has been for her. I hope that she is doing well there. I have been worrying all day long. I’m sure that she is fine.
