Astrid has been getting these bloody noses. They only happen in her right nostril. Last time that it happened there was a lot of blood. It was all over her, her pacifier, me and the wall. I had called the nurse when she had her first one, and she said that it was nothing to be concerned about … it was most likely dry air and sensitive capillaries. This is the fourth time that it has happened. I’m sure that it’s nothing. I’m sure that Astrid is going to be a rock climber when she grows up. She is always climbing up on things, and is not happy unless she has stood on the highest point of any object. She is climbing up on the table as we speak. It is quite a challenge to buy her clothes these days. She fits in the body of 6/9 month old clothes; 12 month is WAY too big; however, the 6/9 month clothes are too short in the length. She always has flood pants. The good news is, is that she is growing taller, but not in proportion to the way that baby clothes are made. She just isn’t a fashion statement right now. I would say that she is 19 pounds and 29 inches tall. Grandma and I took her to the park the other day and ‘what a reality check’. She was the shortest kid in the play yard. There were kids that were 6 months older than her, and a whole head length taller than her. The parents I spoke with asked me, ‘how old is she … 14/15 months’? When I told them that she was almost 22 months, they looked at me a little funny. I just get to the point where I get tired of explaining the situation. They can just think what they want to think. No words yet. She hasn’t said a single word, and I know it’s because she is stubborn. She understands everything, can point to pictures and objects in her books and I can have a one-way conversation with her and she gets it. I’m trying the techniques that the counselors have suggested to get her talking, but it’s just not working. When she’s ready to talk, I’m sure she won’t stop, so in that aspect, I’m in no hurry. She loves to look at books and we spend a lot of time reading and looking at them and pointing to everything. She still watches Sesame Street and Elmo’s World, but she doesn’t get the same joy as before. She is a little bored. Her favorite thing to do is to go outside in the backyard and walk around, and pretend she’s watering flowers. She is a good kid, temperamental at times (that hasn’t gone away), but she is really a joy to hang out with. I love seeing her learning and exploring new things … it is still quite interesting to me how much she is taking in.
